"Photography is a way of feeling, of touching, of loving...what you have caught on film is captured forever…it remembers little things..."
- Aaron Siskind
Who I Am
From the day I was born, I’ve been immersed in a world of art. My father is a painter and sculptor, a mentor who spoke about the importance of brushstrokes and the interplay of blended colors as they form themselves into one anew. My uncle is an art professor, a wizened guide to my journey through the ages as I moved from one era of art to another, immersed in their expression. My aunt is a graphic designer, a visionary who brought me into the modern age of photography with digital editing and design. Growing up I learned that life was akin to a living canvas, every moment creating its own wholly unique artistic experience.
So for me, photography is about capturing a moment in time that will never exist again, plucking a still image from that ever changing canvas of life. As a photographer I seek to tell the story of a moment through my photos, pulling out the who, the where, and the what; who is the focus, where are they, what are they feeling. My goal is to create a still image that doesn’t just show something as it appears, but invokes the true essence of the moment it came from. To capture the spark present in every second of life.
To me, a picture speaks a thousand words because you’re driven to find out what it says. From exotic vistas to small town cafes, marathon triumphs to lazy strolls through the park, everybody and everything has a story to tell. They speak in motion, in the tensing bodies of athletes competing in the heat of the moment. They speak in color, the pastel blues of a cloudless sky softly hanging over a summertime beach. They speak in warmth, the saccharine sunlight of a summer day as it washes over a suburban neighborhood. They speak in light and shadow, the jiving dance of a fall night bonfire illuminating a country yard.
When I step behind the camera I look for these sensations, these incredible feelings that live in the moment, dancing along in our ever-changing world. Pulling them in and pairing them with photos of the moments they sprang from, laying them over their now still images like paint strokes over a canvas. So that when someone looks back upon them, they’re pulled back into the sensation of that moment as it existed. Though, for all the ever changing complexity and artistic storytelling I find within photography. At the end of the day, I’m just a dude trying to capture the moment.
What I do
I strive to create a photographic experience which holistically captures a moment in time. I design an experience which is not only able to capture the image of a moment, but the feelings, emotions, and energy of the experience itself.
The artistic approach begins with the construction of a narrative; I wholeheartedly believe in the expression "A picture is worth a thousand words". Whether it be the burgeoning smile of an excitable infant or the expression of pride and content worn by their guided parent, every part of our picture tells a story in their own way.
I put forth my greatest skills, ideas, and creative abilities so that I can ensure your photos remain timeless snippets of your most important moments. Years down the line when you look back at these photos, you'll be effortlessly pulled back into the significance, emotion, and joy of the moment.
This vision is at the heart of what I strive to accomplish. So that a couple celebrating their 25th anniversary can still be swept to the glowing happiness of their wedding day while they flip through old photos. So that a young CEO can look back at her graduation photos and still feel the anxious excitement of that moment as though she were still draped in the colors of her alma mater. So a couple waving off their son as he leaves for college can look at his baby photos and remember the feeling of holding his delicate body in their arms those years ago.
